Walking on Sunshine!
If we ever need a reminder of how much our young people can achieve we only have to cast our minds back to the end of the summer term and the wonderful charity fundraising event that two of our Year 10 students organised.
Lucy Richards and Caitlin Sinclair took on the mighty task of arranging an 8 mile walk from school to the Crook O’ Lune (and back!) to raise money for Cancer Research, a charity very close to Lucy’s heart.
Arranging any school wide activity is no mean feat and the girls rose to the challenge superbly, organising 4 different departure times and staffing the walk, as well as planning activities to be held in school for those not taking part.
The day of the sponsored walk arrived, and what a beautiful day it was. The sun was shining and even we were astounded at the number of students who arrived kitted out in their sportiest gear and ready to ramble! So we had 3 groups of 80+ teens walking an 8 mile round trip, what could possibly go wrong I hear you ask?! Well actually, nothing! The whole event ran so smoothly and was enjoyed very much by everybody taking part. It was definitely a bonding experience, the teachers and support staff who walked with our students described the real buzz in the air and the feeling of community that every attendee experienced.
So a lovely time was had by all and more great memories were made but the most important thing that came out of the day was the amount of money donated for Cancer Research. Unbelievably well over £2000 was raised! Thank you so much to our students and their families for their contributions. You never fail to amaze us with your generosity.
