St John's Hospice - fundraising
Alongside the fundraising for LDHAS before Christmas the sixth form have also been raising money for St John's Hospice, through bag packing at the local supermarkets and (very cold) carol singing on the last day of term! Whilst everybody finished school early on the last day and went off home to begin their Christmas fun, the Uganda Group and friends went into Lancaster and spent FIVE hours carol singing in Market Square. The weather was atrocious, with heavy rain and cold winds, but the group stuck it out and even managed to have some fun! They raised over £200 which was shared between the Uganda 18 fund and St John's Hospice.
Rachel from the hospice came in today (15.01.18) to be presented with a cheque by Maisie, Gemma and Mrs Lowe for a fantastic £2089! Rachel stressed to the 6th form how important their fundraising and donations were, she commented that OLCC was such a fantastic contributor to the hospice and they greatly appreciated the school's contributions. Rachel also encouraged the sixth formers to go and visit the hospice and think about volunteering, this could be working the patients, but also in the finance or admin depts. Rachel reminded the youngsters that time is as important as funds for a charity and it was also a great experience for the volunteers too.
