Match Report - Football (Year 10)
Year 10 Football V Ripley Academy – Match Report Thursday 17th March
BACK TO WINNING WAYS - What a difference a day (or three!) makes.
We started rather cautiously against an athletic Ripley team who were unlucky not to go ahead in the early parts of the game, mainly because they had some serious pace upfront but couldn’t finish. As the game went on OLCC began to look more dangerous in attack with a number of breaks coming close to scoring before Tom Varey finished off a nice move to put us ahead. Louis Thurlwell doubled the score before half time with a strong run that finished off with a powerful shot. Despite the reminder of complacency at half time we appeared half asleep as Ripley started the second half much stronger and were unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions. After the initial 10 mins of pressure we began to take control of the game. We comfortably passed the ball out of defence and linked well in midfield and attack to find ourselves attacking in numbers on numerous occasions. As a result of the attacks Simon and Nathan both scored to double the overall lead by the end of the game to 4-0. Positives – Confidence was high and many players were first to the ball with team spirit being very strong. Areas to work on - Discipline in keeping team shape when we feel we could all score if only given the chance.
Team Performance 9/10
Tom Varey 1, Louis Thurlwell 1, Simon Cody 1, Nathan Kernik
Man of the Match
Both Luke Crossley and Lewis Brittain did exceptionally well to contain the fast Ripley attack with good reading of the game and some excellently timed tackles.
