Match Report - Football (Year 10)

Year 10 Football V Morecambe High School Match Report –  Thurs 25th February 2016

A solid start to the season!

After a confident and well organised start, with OLCC retaining much of the possession, we went one down to a headed goal. That seemed to spur the team into action as we had a number of attacks both on the left and right wings with Nathan Kernik and Callum Scully getting into good positions and putting the Morecambe keeper under some pressure. Nathan and Viktor both got Morecambe defenders into trouble with some excellent dribbling in and around the box, one which resulted in a penalty and two others where free kicks were awarded. Unfortunately none of these opportunities resulted in a goal but a couple of other attacking moves gave Callum Scully the opportunity to rifle the ball low into the net on two occasions.

Half-time score OLCC 4 – Morecambe HS 1.

The second half followed a similar pattern with Morecambe scoring within 10 minutes from another header. We then started to exert some pressure again with a number of attacks resulting in good saves or near misses. Eventually the pressure told with Tom Varey picking up a hat-trick, Viktor scored a well-made goal and Louis Thurwell went on one of his attacking runs and managed to finish it off with a powerful shot.

Final Score OLCC 7 – Morecambe HS 2 (and it could have been a lot more!)

All round an excellent performance from all players who showed a good level of maturity and patience when some well linked up moves didn’t always pay off. The team kept their shape well and looked dangerous when attacking on the wings and through the middle, as well as being organised in defence.

Team Performance Rating

 9/10

Goal Scorers

Tom Varey 3, Callum Scully 2, Louis Thurlwell 1, Viktor Minkov 1.

Man of the Match

Louis Thurlwell – A well organised and strong performance in defence and some powerful runs forward when moved into midfield, one of which resulted in a well-deserved goal.
