Shelter of Hope
During the Season of Advent, pupils participated in a special form prayer in our entrance hall, focusing on 'Hope in Advent'. We began by lighting our Advent wreath and reflected on journeys we have made. We walked through to the courtyard to see two painted images of people representing modern day refugees and as we listened to stories of people fleeing Syria, we took time in silence to pray for all those making journeys to safety. We came back inside to the foyer to focus on the same figures, however painted to represent Joseph and Mary on their journey to Bethlehem. The Gospel accounts were reflected on as we make links to modern day refugees, all in need of shelter and all pressing on with hope for the future. Pupils then wrote on brick shaped cut outs what they hope and pray for their families, friends and the world. These bricks were placed around our figures, to build a Shelter of Hope. This powerful visual was very encouraging that so many of our students have a desire for peace in the world.
